Just last year, an inconvenient opportunity fell into my path with an affiliate contest.
Russell Brunson, CEO + Founder of ClickFunnels, wrote a book called Expert Secrets and ran a huge contest for affiliates of the book.
I happen to be an affiliate of his and I really wanted to run the other way, but I chose to tackle the opportunity because I knew there was potential growth from the experience.
In today’s episode, I dive into why sometimes taking a great opportunity, even at a really inconvenient time, can be worth the trouble.

Hey, guys, it’s Julie here. Today I wanted to talk to you about the inconvenient opportunity.
Some of you may remember back during an affiliate contest that Russell Brunson if you don’t know who Russell Brunson is, he’s the CEO and founder of ClickFunnels. He writes a lot
of books and he’s really competitive, and so he decided to do this big contest.
And so what I really want to talk to you about today is how inconvenient that opportunity was in my business and yet I chose to do it because of what I knew could come out of it. So that’s what I’m gonna discuss today.
What do I mean by the inconvenient opportunity? So as I was telling you Russell Brunson wrote a book called Expert Secrets and he decided to have this big contest and he has a huge affiliate program. I’m one of his affiliates. And he basically said you know the person who wins and sells the most books gets a Batman suit. and I didn’t want a Batman suit. That was not appealing to me at all, but you know that’s okay. I wanted to compete because I thought it would be cool. He also offered a mastermind that I did want. So this opportunity presented itself in my business and it was the worst possible time to do something like this. Ever.
Number one, I was moving. Two, I was getting ready to do a big event in Chicago and three I was in the middle of this huge launch of my own program.
So I had a moment where I thought this is not convenient and I might lose money if I distract myself from this big launch I have over here and I go participate in some contests for a Batman suit. Yet I knew that becoming part of something that had a much bigger, broader reach than what I could do on my own. It would be an opportunity for my business that could possibly change my business.
So I did it and you don’t know what happened. It was really dramatic. It was very competitive I ended up placing fourth in the contest which was this huge huge accomplishment because I would beat out people like Tony Robbins and Jeff Walker. And that inconvenient opportunity that was really stressful, really time-consuming and really competitive actually completely changed my business completely. People knew me. I got thousands of new followers. I got an opportunity to go hang out with Russell which led to more opportunities and more new relationships.
Why do I tell you this? I tell you this because when you are building your business they’re going to be moments where you see opportunity and it’s inconvenient. Maybe you’re gonna be offered something that’s gonna cost you a lot of money and you don’t really have the money but you know that if you jump, it’s gonna change things. Or maybe it’s a matter of time, or in my case, it was a matter of focus. And so I turned my focus to look for those opportunities and try to assess if there’s something that you can get out of that opportunity that’s actually gonna push you farther.
So that’s my caution to all of you today who see opportunities and you let them pass you by because they’re inconvenient. Most opportunities aren’t convenient. Most of them cost money. They cost time. They cost focus but they are completely and totally worth it.
